Ladakh’s precious possession, its biggest town Leh, is a traveler’s delight. It is also known as “Land of High Passes” and is mainly inhabited by Tibetans. With long stretches of beige hills and almost null vegetation; Ladakh looks beautiful with its cragginess too. While you drift across its roads, you will pass past iconic monasteries and stupas; like the Thiksey Monastery and NamgyalStupa. Thiksey Monastery looks like Potala Palace of Lhasa; this is the largest monastery in central Ladakh.
Make sure you stopover in PangongTso, a crystal-clear-emerald spread across of 604 km sq. Located on the Leh-Kargil route is the Magnetic Hill; this mysterious yet fascinating area defies gravity. Don’t get mistaken that this sparsely populated area will upset you in terms of shopping. Its market area is thronged by locals and travelers; it sells Ladakhi artworks, handlooms, souvenirs and what not. Small patches of vegetation could be seen in and around this colorful market area, in this otherwise arid region. This is a perfect place for adventure enthusiasts and nature-buffs.
